MEDITATION 101

Meditation 101

The stress of life can be very overwhelming as we worry about money, love, future and career as well as our friends and family and what is happening in their lives. We all create clutter in our mind by playing the possibilities and probabilities game and thinking about the, ‘what if’s and maybes’ in life. This is evident when we look out the window to see a tiny cloud and think, “What if it rains today? Maybe I need to take an umbrella.” Learning the art of relaxation is the key to letting go of some of the meaningless clutter in the mind allowing it to flow more freely. Relaxing the mind is as simple as taking the time to breathe and be in the present, not thinking about the past or the future but simply focusing on the breath. Meditation is a wonderful form of relaxation taking the mind from the normal thought pattern, creating a space of peace and tranquility. A more relaxed environment at home helps the mind to unwind. Smelling the aroma of candles, enjoying a hot bath, a glass of wine, reading a book, watching television, listening to music or creating a beautiful meal can help you relax. Some people go to the gym for a good workout session to help release the stress from the day. Others may visit a park or go to the beach. I like to take the dog for a walk or spend time catching up with family and friends. Whatever the method is, it is important to find away to relax the mind regularly. However, the best ways to relax is through regular meditation.
